SOY IS NOT A HEALTH FOOD!!!!
Don’t let advertising hype deceive you. Soy is not the health food it is claimed to be, especially the unfermented varieties.
Soy products can increase the risk of some forms of cancer, thyroid issues and brain dysfunction, as well as a multitude of other health problems. Any soy product consumed should be only the fermented varieties, and then in only very limited quantities. Soy is dirt cheap to produce, and dirt cheap to use. At last tally, it's now in about 60% of the processed foods on the supermarket shelves. (Yet another reason to make foods from scratch instead of buying processed foods.) It has replaced many other grains in foods where it wasn't used in the past. For example – breads previously used a lot of cottonseed oil. Cheaper soybean oil has broadly and largely replaced it.
There is so much more information than I can possibly ever make available here, but I have tried to give you plenty of sites to get your research well on it’s way. Google searches can net you a vast multitude of information on soy, both pro and anti, so educate yourself as best you can so you can make the best decisions possible for YOUR health!
BELOW IS A MULTITUDE OF LINKS WITH FABULOUS INFORMATION ON THE TRUTH ABOUT SOY. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU READ THOROUGHLY BEFORE MAKING SOY A MORE THAN MINIMAL PART OF YOUR DIET, PARTICULARLY IF YOU PREFER THE UNFERMENTED SOY PRODUCTS.

I read on another site .... http://www.seedsofdeception.com/Genetically-Modified-Foods-at-a-Glance.php ... that 80% of the soy produced commercially in the US is GM, which I am sure doesn't help with soy intolerances and allergies. I've read warnings about GM corn and the increase in intolerances, allergies and lack of digestibility that goes with it, but only 38% of corn is GM according to that same source. If those figures are accurate, how many more people could be having trouble with soy than would otherwise because of so much soy being GM?
The info I've found so far indicates that soybean oil and soy sauce both have virtually NO isoflavones in them. Isoflavones appear to be the largest health risk for soy usage, but it is not the ONLY problem with using too much soy in the diet.
